About Lex

I’m a science fiction author, a walking bundle of contradictions, and someone who spends far too much time daydreaming about the tangled relationship between technology, people, and whatever terrifying nonsense the universe is hiding from us. I like writing about what happens when science moves faster than people can emotionally handle.

My Journey

Science fiction got its hooks into me when I was a child and never let go. Somehow, that obsession followed me from engineering into humanitarian work, where I kept asking the same question: how can more people live with dignity, security, and a healthy environment? It was the search for those answers that inspired me to pick up a pen.

The Writing Adventure

Ironically, despite being very proficient with technology, I’m a bit of a klutz when it comes to social media. I often don’t know what to say and find myself tripping over algorithms, fumbling with hashtags, and generally feeling like I’m ten steps behind. I know – not ideal for a debut writer! haha

So now I’m treating indie publishing like a massive experiment – partly exciting, partly terrifying, and mostly held together with caffeine and stubbornness. It’s also a chance to throw everything I learn, feel, fear, and wonder about into the chaotic machinery of my mind, then see what kind of fantastical worlds and characters crawl out.

The response to my first book, The Birth of Cogenant, caught me off guard. I thought maybe a handful of people would like it, but the warmth and kindness I’ve received have been deeply inspiring. There is something wonderful about bringing a story to life, then realising it has reached people I may never meet. It still amazes me that these strange little ideas in my head can grow into fully-fledged stories that entertain people around the world.

A Bundle of Contradictions

When I’m not writing, I usually swing between total quiet and absolute chaos. I might be curled up with a book, obsessing over science or global politics, or going absolutely nuts on a dance floor. I’ve also been lucky to have people around me who have challenged me to appreciate diverse viewpoints, loved me, argued with me, and somehow put up with me.

I spend a lot of time thinking about humanity’s flaws, and sometimes our real-world choices genuinely scare me. But that is exactly why I love travelling. Meeting strangers across the globe and seeing their inherent warmth reminds me that, despite all our messy complexities, there is much more light in us than dark. The smiles of people like you do make the world feel bigger, brighter, and kinder.

My Literary World

My debut novel, The Birth of Cogenant, grew out of my obsession with consciousness, artificial intelligence, and the messy moral disasters that powerful technology can leave behind. I’m now deep into the Cogenant series, working on the second and third books.

I’ve been shaped by writers such as Frank Herbert, Neal Shusterman, and Isaac Asimov. They showed me that science fiction can ask huge questions without forgetting the people trapped inside them.

I want my stories to be more than plots moving from A to B. I want them to ask what progress costs, who pays for it, and whether humanity can survive its own cleverness. I want you to laugh and cry with my characters, just like I do when I write them. I want the worlds I create to make us think harder about the future we are building and, sometimes, to look again at the choices we make today.

My Belief in Stories

Books changed me. They still do. I would be nothing without books. That’s why I believe stories can also change the world. I owe a lot to the writers who came before me. They made me think harder, feel deeper, and question things I might otherwise have accepted.

My love goes out to all writers who try to change the world and expand readers’ minds with nothing but imagination, tenacity, and a pen.
